Hard Way Half
12 May 2019
This challenging half marathon will test your mental and physical resolve as you pit yourself against some of the toughest terrain Portland has to offer….. springy grass, rocky footpaths, pebble beach, hard core paths and steep hills (there are some lovely sea views though!) The route takes you from the top of the island to the bottom and back up again. Along the way you will pass the prison, Historic High Angle Batteries, the Verne, Portland Marina, run along Chesil Beach before climbing Lankridge, a challenging climb of over 350ft. A quick breather at the top as you appreciate the view and continue along Westcliff to Portland Bill and back up the East side of the Island where you will tackle the infamous Goat path! Whether an experienced runner or a first timer this is a great challenge and you will be rightly proud of your achievement as you cross the line.
As a guide for time, club records show that nobody has ever taken more than 3.5 hours to complete the race, so although there is no official cut off time at around the three hour mark we will be looking at starting to pull the Marshalls in, although the finish will remain open until at least three and a half hours after the start.
It’s a tough course, but worth it!
