Richard Burton mini miler Fun Run 2017

Big thank you for entering the 2017 Richard Burton 10 km or the mini miler Fun Run. This is one of the oldest races on the Welsh calendar. Thanks also to all of the runners who are again supporting this event having entered this race in past years. You are about to take part in a race that epitomises the spirit and beauty of our famous Welsh valleys, with the spirit of the legend that is Richard Burton.
The Bryn and Cwmafan events committee, charity number 5103586, organising this event will ensure all profits off this event will go to local charity's and community organisations with details to be announced post event. You can also donate to these worthy causes at check out.
There is ample parking in and around the village of Cwmafan; including signed, designated parking areas
1.Garage on London row near the Britt pub, will be available until 10:00 after which access will be restricted . SA12 9BG
2.Car park behind pizza gatti ,ty'r-owen row . SA12 9BG
3.Car park opposite the coop in Waun Wen. SA12 9TB
Please do not park in depot road adjacent to the community centre /rugby club which is part off the course.
Number /chip pick up for the 10 km will be on the day in the Cwmafan Community Centre SA12 9DF.....There will be marked tables inside where you will register and pick up your timing chip /number.
The Tata Steel Richard Burton 10 km entries on the day will be limited (if available) with an added extra cost.
Entries will close when the 2,000 runner limit has been reached. If this is not reached, on the day entries will close at 10:00 am and all on-line entries will close midnight Wednesday 1st November.
There will be toilets available in Cwmafan Rugby Club. Portable Toilets will also be available opposite the Cwmafan Rugby Club. Disabled toilets will be available at the Cwmafan Community Centre.
There are also toilets in the changing rooms in Parc y Llyn ( the park on the main road opposite the Rugby Club)
A pre-race briefing will be held at Cwmafan Community Centre.
The 2 races will start outside the Cwmafan Community Centre SA12 9DF. The first race, the 2 km Fun Run will start at approximately 10:15 am followed by the 10 km race which will start at approximately 11.00 am.
Marshalling and First Aid
The route and First Aid will be under the control of the Western Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, who will ensure that any issues that occur during your run will be dealt with professionally.
Marshalling will be under the control of Port Talbot Harriers.
Road traffic control will be managed by our traffic management team, who are all section 8 trained.
Runners are reminded to keep to the left hand side off the road at all times unless otherwise directed, by a race official.
There will be manned drink stations on route from just after half way.
Once you cross the finishing line, the 10 km runners will receive their Richard Burton T-shirt and race memento . There will also be refreshments available.
Prize list for the 10 km
Race Presentations for the 10 km run will start at 12:30 in the Rugby Club. 1st...£200, 2nd..£120, 3rd...£90, 4th...£60, 5th...£50 First m/f veteran over 40...Trophy & £50 First male and female veteran over 50...£50 First team m/f (3 to score)...£120 .
1st Cwmafan finisher m/f Trophies Tata Steel First Male & First Female Trophies .......
Most Supported Group ,the Lesa Hitchings Trophy plus a £250 donation to the charity of their choice......
A £50 bonus will be paid to the fastest male under 30 Minutes and female runner under 34 minutes. A further £50 will be paid to anyone setting a new male or female course record. Current course record holders are Ian Hamer at 29:23 and Andrea Whitcombe at 34:12.
Cwmavon RFC will compete with Pontrhydyfen RFC for the Mathew Mizen Memorial Trophy.
mini miler Fun Run
The mini miler entries will be taken online and on the day with registration from 8:30 to 09:45. This race start time is 10:15. Again the “on the day” entries will be limited and at an extra cost so online registration is recommended.
Children entering this race will receive a T-shirt they can run in, a goodies bag and a medal . The first 3 boys and first 3 girls across the finish line will also receive trophies.
The mini miler Fun Run presentations will take place at the start line just before the start of the 10 km run.
Post race entertainment
There will be a number of activities available on the day for all to enjoy, including a Welsh Choir and live music at the Cwmafan Rugby Club starting after the race presentations.
All runners, friends, family, spectators and guests are welcome to the post race party. In a relaxed atmosphere, you can share race stories over refreshments whilst listening to live music at the Cwmavon Rugby Club. A licensed bar will be available.

Also opposite the main entrance to the community centre at the back of the rugby club.
