Devauden Cross County 10k
02 May 2016
Devauden Cross-Country Races celebrates its fifth birthday in 2016 and in recognition of its growing status and popularity we are affiliating the event with Welsh Athletics through the Spirit of Monmouth Running Club.
The races take place around the 100 acres of Chepstow Park Woods, starting and finishing in the grounds of Devauden Hood Memorial Hall which sits on the northern edge.
The event has expanded each year and now features the following races*:
- 10k - the original challenge for adults and teenagers 15 and over
- 5k – a new route for 2016 open to 11 to 14 year olds
- 3k – open to 9-10 year olds FREE ENTRY
- 2k – a new route within the woods for 7 and 8 year olds FREE ENTRY
- 60m dash – 6 years and under run the length of the football pitch FREE ENTRY
*As the routes are multi-terrain, all course distances stated are approximate. This is in accordance with Welsh Athletics/UKA regulations for licenced multi-terrain events.
For 2016 we are using the latest chip technology to record race times. It's important for runners to make sure their chips are worn in accordance with instructions provided on the day. No chip means no time!
Distinctive tree shaped trophies will be awarded to all race and category winners.
All the routes are entirely off-road on firm gravel but occasionally rutted forestry tracks, soil footpaths and, in the gulley leading to the woods, a steep rocky path.
The ground can be uneven with trip hazards such as rocks and tree roots, and overhead branches.
In wet weather the paths can be muddy and slippery with puddles. Off road shoes are recommended particular when wet.
