ARC Race Permit - 23/054
The 35th running of the Grizzly/Cub races will take place on Sunday 5th March 2023. Grizzly participants can expect 3000' ascent over 20 miles, with two sections of pebble beaches, totalling over a mile; two energy sapping bogs, where runners are often up to their waists in water and mud; and the infamous "Stairway to Heaven", a steep path up the side of a cliff. Cub participants will experience the two sections of pebble beaches and the Stairway to Heaven over the 9 mile course.
This is a not for profit race organised soley by local volunteers and any net profits from the race are donated to various local groups, organisations and charities. To date, approximately £490,000 has been donated over the past 35 years.
Please note the following:
1. You will need to set up a user account with Full On Sport to be able to submit an online entry. We advise you do this before entries go live.
2. If you already have a Full On Sport account, then please check and ensure all your address and email details are up to date.
3. Order confirmation emails will be sent to the email address that you have set your Full On Sport account with (rather than the email address used on the entry form). If a racer has a new email address, you will need to go to your Full On Sport profile and update it on there.
Entry fees (FOS admin fee will be added):
Full Grizzly Affiliated: £35
Full Grizzly Unaffiliated: £37
Cub: Affiliated: £24
Cub: Unaffiliated: £26
Please note that this year entries are on a first come first served basis and a ballot for places is NOT being conducted. Once the race is full no additional places will be made available to runners although a change of runner process will be in operation as in previous years.
Note that this year runners will not receive a race t-shirt as part of their entry fee. Runners will be able to separately purchase a race t-shirt online and details of this process will follow separately.
Please also note that again this year we are operating a cup-free race meaning that runners will have to carry their own water supply in bladder packs or their own cups which can be filled at water stations around the course.
Race and general entry details:
Please do not enter without having first read the full section Details of 2023 race Click Here. We spend a lot of time correcting mistakes by people who have not read the instructions! Please also read the sections on the Grizzly race website which deal with our policy on places, transfers and refunds as well as the race rules, terms and conditions (including the section on "Liability").
Please be aware that both the 20 mile Grizzly and the 9 mile Cub present tough challenges over a multi-terrain route including bogs, streams, beaches, clifftops and ascents/descents up/down steep hills. Strict time cut-offs/shortcuts are imposed at various points around the course and please only enter and take part in the race if you are fit and healthy enough to do so. Please ensure that you review these time cut-offs/shortcuts on the Grizzly website as these cut-offs/shortcuts will be strictly imposed in 2023.
By taking part in the race, you agree to being photographed by the official race photographer.
Here’s a taster of what you can expect from the Grizzly:
Details for any junior Grizfest races to be held on Saturday 4th March 2023 are not yet available and will be advised when known.
The race organisers will consider the safety of runners, marshals and other support groups when making any decision regarding any possible postponement or cancellation of the event. In the event of the race being postponed or cancelled, entrants may potentially lose all or a significant portion of their entry fee and runners should consider taking out their own personal insurance policy to cover such losses.
While there are currently no local or Government COVID-19 restrictions in place which would prevent the event from taking place, there is no guarantee that restrictions will not be imposed before race day which may prevent the holding of the event.
