Meon Valley Half
06 November 2016
The half marathon has around 400 metres of elevation gain, and runs along country lanes, trails and grass; 6.9 miles on-road and 6.2 miles off-road. The route uses the half of the marathon course that misses out the more extreme off-road hills. Nevertheless, this is a still a hilly half marathon, but rewards you with fabulous views over the beautiful Meon Valley, and across Hampshire to the Isle of Wight.
Run mainly on country lanes, footpaths, bridleways and byways, there will be route-marking with signs and repeater tape and multiple water/feed stations along the way. Simplified maps of the course will also be available on the day.
Given the time of year, it is likely that the first downhill on grass and chalky track may be a little slippery, and there may be mud and puddles in a couple of the off-road stretches, but the entire route should be runnable, and the course is designed to have very few interruptions (gates, stiles etc).
Checkpoints will be positioned approximately every 4½ miles, and will have water and soft drinks to refill your containers, plus some sweets and savouries that you are welcome to take with you. Your number will be recorded at all checkpoints.
