Blackwater Valley Runners
BVR would like to be described as a social running club. We have over 130 members, made up of roughly equal numbers of male and females of all running standards. The main club night is Wednesday and we meet at 6.55pm for a quick chat and some dynamic stretches to warm up. Then at 7.15pm we split into 4 or 5 different ability groups, all with group leaders, to run for as little as 4 miles or for the more serious runners up to 10 miles. In Winter we use loads of well lit routes, and do hill training, reps, fartlek etc. In Summer we often venture off road. Occasionally we organise activities such as handicap races and away days; please check the Club Diary or Facebook page for details. The clubhouse has great facilities, including 4 changing rooms with showers. After the run some members then retire to the club bar for refreshment, as some say that beer is good for building up the carbohydrates again.
A note about UK Athletics (UKA) affiliation
UKA have changed the rules regarding entering races as part of a club. For many races, you may now only enter 'Blackwater Valley Runners' as your 'club name' if you are personally a paid up member of UKA. To make the transition to becoming a UKA affiliated runner a little easier on the pocket, BVR will put £2 towards the levy, leaving you to pay the remaining £12. Our standard club fees will remain unaffected, and we hope you will agree that £50 a year for membership of the best running club in the area, especially with the facilities we have, is a bargain.
